A few random notes...
Nov. 21st, 2004 12:31 amI have a new computer, courtesy of
the_ogre. We have a spare keyboard, now I just need a monitor, mouse, and (eventually) a good set of speakers. The box has Windows XP loaded (IIRC, it's one of the Win2K variants) and I'm going to partition the drive and have
mdlbear set me up with a good Linux build.
Work frustrates me. In this economy, what kind of idiot do you have to be to fuck up a retail job? One of the seasonals blew off his shift today. 18 year old guy, started out strong but soon was more interested in joking around with his friends. And the girl I closed with! Oy! We cannot get it through her head that we recover the store first, then do go-backs if time allows. Having a few things left out in the morning is forgivable.. having half the store look like crap is not!
I'm getting regulars, though. People who ask for me when they come in if I'm not at the register. Sold a woman close to two grand in furniture because she trusted my opinion. That's a good feeling. I wish people would stop expecting me to be a walking wine encyclopedia.
The urge to write is brewing. I may be doing some clean-up on the bits of Interstellar Wars that I wrote (if
pauldrye so desires.) Other than that, I'm coming out opf a period where Traveller just grayed onh me for a while. Maybe it's the IW playtest, but I'm getting interested in finishing (ha! Try barely starting!) The Lunion subsector project.
On that note, I'm thinking about creating my own label for any PDFs I do, since I'd like to get a little money for them. What do y'all think of Plummeting Penguin Press as a name?
Hell, I think I even have some short story ideas germinating in me. Am I ready to try that, finally? Will I have a Pro Party in 2005?
Sometimes, I feel really old. The girl I closed with tonight had never heard of Led Zepplin. Seriously.
UC Berkeley Golden Bears: 41
Stanford Univeristy Cardinal: 6
Cal keeps The Ax, and the correct score for the 1982 game remains in place.
For Thanksgiving, the Shiraz or the Chardonnay? Or both? The Yellow Tail is affordable enough....
and so to bed.
