Hey Mr. Sabean..
Apr. 22nd, 2004 08:12 amWe told you to sign some bats to protect Bonds and fill out the line-up.
We told you our pitching corps was stretched to the limit and not very good to begin with.
We told you that this team needed Jose Cruz, Jr.
But did you listen to us? Noooooo..
You dismissed us as the Lunatic Fringe, and said this team was just as good as last year's, which won 100 games and the NL West.
Hear that laughter? It's just us lunatics..
San Diego Padres: 11
San Francisco Giants: 0
Let's see.. we can't pitch. The Padres' lead-off batter reached safely in every inning but they ninth. We gave up 17 hits. That's not a game, that's batting practice,
We can't hit. We got a mighty 4 hits, and even when an isolated Giant did get a hit, he spent the remainder of the inning watching his teammates miss hanging curves and, oh yes, hit into double plays. We lead the league in that category.
We can't field. Not even counting the collision between Tucker (feel free to change that first letter) and the already hurt Ray Durham; we were constantly out of position, missing chances for our own double plays and letting short flares drop.
Did I mention that we can't run?
So, other than not being able to pitch, hit, field, or run, we've got one Hell of a team!
Time to spend a little money, guys. We need, in order:
Pitching! We need some relievers that can go in there and close out games. We need at least one other starter.
Protection for Bonds. We need a good bat behind him. A couple of speedsters ahead of him would be nice.
A right fielder. Bring back Jose Cruz, Jr! They guy won a Gold Glove last year.. he made one bad play in the NLDS last year against the eventual World Series winners, and people treat him like poison. He isn't. He's a good ballplayer. We should have resigned him.
