A busy couple of days...
Feb. 10th, 2004 03:28 pmYesterday, I had to get up early and go get sucked upon by vampires. I have a doctor's appointment Friday and as always, it involved blood work. This involved take two busses at about 0800. You people who live where winter is real can laugh if you like, but 34 degrees F is cold. Made worse by the fact I was fasting for the draws. Get to my doctor's, pick up the paperwork, go to the lab, get stuck.. and they draw six tubes of my precious bodily fluids! Ye Ghods! I actually was dizzy when I stood up! Of course, they have nothing on hand to help replace the fluid they pulled.
I have to head home quickly, because I actually get to work during the day.. and my shift starts at noon. So I wait for the bus, and wait. And wait. Finally it comes. Get to my connection point with about 15 minutes to kill, and Nob Hill Foods has a bakery..
Donuts good! Sprinkles better!
I finally get home, and I have maybe 40 minutes to get ready for work, 20 after I ate. (It turned out my fasting was a waste of time.. none of the tests needed me to starve myself.) So I stagger into work unshaven, looking like hell because I still feel the effects of losing a lot of blood, and get to work.
Luckily, I got to spend my entire shift at the counter. Nobody asked me to assemble furniture, or do go-backs, or.. well, think. I did have a neat experience. I was checking out an elderly German couple, nice people. A coworker asked me the time, and I replied "about 1500." The gentleman lit up, and asked if was a soldier. I said yes, I was an infantryman. He said that he had been in the infantry as well.. as part of the Wehrmacht! Captured in France, came to the US after the war. Neat man. When I was off, I forgot my Palm Pilot in one of my apron pockets. Come home, find the check from SJG, And sit down at the computer and start netting. Realized my Palm was gone when I reached for it to HotSync. Called work, talked to the Hippie-Gypsy Manager, who assured me she would put in the safe immediately.
I honestly thought I was home alone. The bedroom was empty. I had music cranked. I thought
kshandra was out on a date with
yohannon So when she came out the room she uses as a retreat, I jumped five feet.
Today I went to work to grab my portable brain. Get the Type-A Manager to open the safe.. and the Palm wasn't there. I check my apron, hanging in the break room, and sure enough. The H-G hadn't grabbed it. I have an excuse to smack one of my bosses!
Put the royalty check in the bank (every time I use the word "royalty", all I hear is The Mothers of Invention doing Billy the Mountain.) and wandered over to Pacific Cycles, and discovered that with about $300 I can buy.. spit. The only bicycle I could afford in the store was a single-speed, back-peddle to brake, 24" wheels.. and it looks like Jessica Fletcher should be riding it as she slaughters half the residents of Cabot Cover, Maine.
Back to Target for us. For the money I have, I can grab a pretty good bike there.
Oh, and I found a bit I wrote in the GT Nobles playtest might be used, at least from the revised text I saw posted. Much coolness.
