Well, I was going to do downtown for the big protest march.. but I barely slept two hours last night, and something I ate is really disagreeing with me. So I'm going to do my net-stuff, and crawl back under the bed covers and hide.

Sitting here, listing to Metallica and reading mail, when the doorbell rings. Not expecting anyone, I use the intercom. I distinctly hear a woman's voice say "Douglas?"

I buzz her in and meet her in the hallway. Very pleasant Indian woman, about 50 I'd guess. And she's holding my disability check. She lives at the same address on 15th Avenue, and had the check delivered there three days ago. She took it to the Post Offal, explained the error, gave it back.. and it comes back the next day! So she hand carried it down here to deliver it herself.

After thanking her profusely, I began to steam. My address is clearly *typed* on the check. There is no way to mistake that 9 for a 5. Once, I can understand. But twice? Come Tuesday, Hurricane Penguin is hitting the Post Office and registering several complaints!

So, we had a big march in SF today, somewhere between 100,000 and 300,000 showing up to hear a rally at Justin Herman Plaza, march up Market to the Civic Center, and hear another rally.

This scored exactly 3 minutes on the news.

A group of about 700 broke off and marched to Union Square, where they began vandalizing stores, setting fires, and throwing rocks at the police. Tear gas was used, as well as the SFPD's mounted unit. This was at 5 minutes and counting when I switched off the set in disgust.

To a man, these idiots appeared to be young. Early twenties, late teens. All these wannabe Che's were screaming at the riot cops, making the entire peace movement look like scary revolutionaries.

Great job guys! Being being total idiots, you complete destroyed the efforts of a few hundred thousand people!

We have a winner-take all LJ baseball bet going. Place $20 down, and stake out your team for the best record in the League.

Rule 1. No American League teams. Real pitchers bat.

Rule 2. You have to be fan of your choice. Slavering fanatic would be better.

Current bets:

[livejournal.com profile] gridlore - San Francisco Giants

[livejournal.com profile] aurictech - St. Louis Cardinals

[livejournal.com profile] bunyip - Chicago Cubs

Anybody interested, leave a message. If more than one person wants to claim a team, it's up to y'all how you split the loot. Which isn't a problem, since the Giants are taking it all!

GO GIANTS!!
