Much giggling over the sports world...
Sep. 29th, 2002 09:54 pmThe despised St. Louis Rams are 0-4. The lost in the last second (literally!) to the equally hated Dallas Cowboys. I was cheering for an asteroid to take out both teams, but this is just as good.
Better yet, Rams quarterback Kurt "Jesus is on my team" Warner broke the pinkie on his right hand. He passes with that hand - and is out for the next four weeks. Of course they play the Niners next week, and the Raiders the week after that. 0-6 is starting to look very real.
Over in Baseball, the Giants finished the regular season with a 7-0 drubbing of the Houston Astros. We played all our secondary players against many of the Astros starters. We still cleaned their clocks. Next game: at Atlanta on Wednesday. I'll miss it because of jury duty!
One sad note... long time Bay Area broadcaster Lon Simmons retired tonight, after 45 years broadcasting games for most of the teams in the SFBA. He worked for the Giants, the A's, the 49ers, and then back to the Giants. He is the only announcer to call opening day games at Seals Stadium, Candlestick Park, and Pacific Bell Park. It's going to be weird seeing a Bonds homer head out to see and not hear his deep voice saying "you can kiss this one good-bye!"
The Niners? We had a bye week. (For the football impaired, each team has one week off during the seventeen week, 16 game season.) Next week? The Lambs come for the slaughter at Candlestick.
