We got silly at work
Dec. 3rd, 2001 12:57 amFor once, my manager was human tonight, and coupled with a fairly light load, things were getting fairly silly by the time the grave manager came in. I was really tired, having been there for almost nine hours, when the following occurred.
But first a little explanation. One of my jobs as dispatcher is to take traffic/accident reports from drivers, and send the most important to all the vans through our dispatch terminals. That way, nobody can claim they didn't hear the alert. Usually, these are very dry, amount to location, direction, and the nature of the problem.
But tonight, somebody called in a couch in the road. Yep, furniture on the loose! Already suffering the screaming sillies, I entered the following:
COUCH ALERT: WILD SOFA HAS BEEN SPOTTED ROAMING 101 N BEFORE THE SPLIT. BE CAREFUL. THEY CAN BE DANGEROUS WHEN WOUNDED.
Needless to say, most people got it. A few of the clueless ones called on the phone, and one guy actually got on the radio to ask, in all seriousness, if we had called animal control yet.
Some nights, I love my job.
