Aug. 16th, 2001 08:10 amYes!!! Astronomers have discovered a solar system that is similar to ours around 47 Ursae Majoris! Two large gas giants have an orbital period that leaves a wide space between perihelion and the star's inner limit for planetary formation.. just like us!
47UMa is a G0v, slightly hotter than our own sun, so the "life zone" would be wider. This is the belt around the star where you would expect to find liquid water and stable O2-N2 atmospheres.
And it's only 51 light-years away...
