May. 30th, 2001 08:36 amHypocrisy. To me, the ugliest thing on Earth. And last night, I got it shoved in my face.
One of the things we do at Super Shuttle is provide rides for TWA flight crews. We do two of them during my shift. The TWA desk calls me to let me know that a flight has landed, and I send a van down to get them. Easy, yes?
A few weeks ago, I got royally bitched out for dropping the ball. A crew was ready to go and we had no vans anywhere near the airport. It was my fault, and I deserved the reaming. At that point, Alexis, the grave manager told me in these exact words "I don't care if you have to have a driver sit for twenty minutes, those crews are higher priority than anything else in the company!"
We also give off-duty drivers rides home if space is available, This is normally a very low priority thing.
So, last night I am very short on vans. I do not have enough vans to cover all the work at the airport! Then TWA calls. Sometimes, we can slip both crews onto one van, but not tonight. So I start searching for a van that can do the job. 545! Call him, and says that he needs to refuel first.
At this point, we are about five minutes into the normal fifteen minute "cushion" between when we get the call and the crew is actually at the pick-up point. Then Alexis tells me to have 545 come by base and give her friend Wanda a ride home! This is a detour that will push back the crew pick up by at least ten minutes.
So I'm trying to explain to a very pissed off pilot why his damn van isn't there yet, and several other drivers are *loudly* commenting that they don't get vans detoured to pick them up, and generally feeling like telling Alexis to go fuck herself.
Like I said, hypocrisy. When I helped Kirsten find a stop way back in the mountains, she looked at me and said in a very nasty tone "you realize you've just set a precedent; you have to help everyone that way" which ignored the fact that I do that every single night with at least three drivers. I even go to the point of not assigning Kirsten her runs, letting Alexis do that, to avoid any possible suggestion of that I'm showing favoritism. But Wanda? When Alexis is the manager, Wanda gets to come into the office and pick her own run! Never mind if I have business that I need covered right now, what Alexis' buddy wants, she gets.
Sooner or later, I will explode, and will have all this well-documented when I do.
