One of the other parting gifts Doug got from his stroke is a case of peripheral neuropathy, so "pressure on the bottom of the feet" is not a viable source of input any longer. (If he can feel them at all, they frequently tell him he's walking around in wet socks, or they're on fire, or something else equally inaccurate and unhelpful.)
