The Giants' unpredictable run through the 2012 postseason took a powerful and historic turn Monday night when their third baseman joined the three aforementioned luminaries as the only players to hit three home runs in a World Series game. Ruth did it twice.
Sandoval homered in his first three plate appearances, twice off Justin Verlander, to propel the Giants past the Tigers 8-3 in a Game 1 that did not follow the script, as Verlander lost big to a now-venerated Barry Zito.
