OK, this weekend I write!

Last night I was struck by an idea for a short story, one that channels Harlan Ellison and Ray Bradbury. The inspiration comes from reading about language experiments using Furbies and remembering when the Mars Pathfinder/Sojourner stopped responding to attempts to contact it. There was a theory that Sojourner, lacking direction, began circling Pathfinder asking for instructions. That image was one of the saddest things I've ever encountered. kshandra mentioned that it reminded her of There Will Come The Soft Rains from The Martian Chronicles

It's also an attempt to write a story that lacks a single sapient, self-aware character. And to make you care about the characters all the same.

This one just feels right. I have beginning middle and end, and all my "bang" moments. I'm not going to post it, because it might just be one I can sell.
