On a related note and FWIW, I recall reading that, when I Love Lucy was being dubbed into Japanese, someone asked Desi Arnez how the dubbers handled his "lousy English." His response was that they "hired an actor who spoke lousy Japanese."

... nada. he would still speak Spanish. There is one episode, way back when, where they shown him backstage, taking tea, and speaking English with a British accent.
