I caught one!

Remember my little encounter with the entitlement queen on light rail?

In a discussion on [livejournal.com profile] stupid_free about how we act towards towards strangers, I linked to that as an example of how I counter rudeness with rudeness.

I evidently set off a member of the "OMYGHOD, White people can't be oppressed!" crowd.

Kind of amusing, and please reply to her little rant she she knows just what kind of humorless cocksucker I really am.

Lacking a timestamped video and signed affidavits from everyone on the train (most of whom probably didn't see/hear/or care about what was happening) I can't.

I do not lie. If I want to lie, I write fiction (and not Mary Sue shit.)

And by the same token, no one can prove that you didn't. You can't keep calling on people to prove that you didn't when you can't prove that you did. It puts the burden of proof on the wrong person/group. We who don't believe it actually happened use our experiences with people to be unable to believe that anyone real can be that witty that quickly. A lot couldn't believe the "I'm Black" part, but i'm just not sure about that one. Can you honestly say that you didn't embellish what you said just a little? That's much harder to believe than you having said any of it in the first place.

Everyone lies; don't you watch House?

No. I don't watch much TV beyond news, Discovery Channel, and baseball. I find most of it to be crap. Being a veteran of extensive serious medical problems makes my views on medical shows a bit skewed. The one time I did see House, I wanted to kill him. I despise doctors like that. My oncologist and I would talk about the 49ers, local events, and life before getting down to business. That made me feel like more than "the Hodgkin's in bed 12-B."

I wrote exactly what I said. Every single word. Do you also believe the Winston Churchill, Dorothy Parker, and Oscar Wilde were fictional? I don't know how old you are, but I've been doing debate, impromptu speaking, public events where I have to speak off the cuff, and the like since 1981.

I believe that Winston Churchill's speeches were primarily pre-written. I believe that most of Oscar Wilde's impromptu wit was brief, and the rest of it he sat down and worked hard to write. I don't have much experience with Dorothy Parker, but i'll bet she's much the same. Even if i'm wrong about all three of them, the fact that you freely compare yourself to them is just... wow.

Oh, for fucks sake.

Winston Churchill was renowned for his ability to speak off the cuff. Yes, his speeches were prewritten, but learn a little about the man! Same for Wilde and Parker.

And I did not compare myself to them! I pointed out that if you refuse to believe that I can come up with something witty off the cuff, does that mean that you also deny that other people can do it too?

Sorry, I was wrong about those great men and women. Oops. Either way, that's the difference: they were great men and women. I see no proof that you're any more than a smart and funny man. Saying "you don't believe i can do it, do you not believe they can do it?" is comparing yourself to them. It's inherent in the statement.

I'm sorry that i'm kind of being a jerk about all this. I just found myself needlessly annoyed by your apparent inability to see why people don't believe you said it and insistence that the doubters needed to prove it. I'll stop now, and let you be.
