One reason I'm glad not to be working at PODS anymore...

Because I know I'd get this place for a drop.

Seriously, what were they thinking when they designed and built these places?

Let's get small.. real small.

Amazing artist creates sculptures that fit inside the eye of a needle.

Some of his work requires that he wait for the pause between heart beats. As a former sniper, I can grok how that works. Really, really amzing detail, and it's scary to realize that this guy would consider painting a 25mm figure a big project.

Meanwhile, in an alternate universe...

Way back in High School, my friends and I dreamed of starting a band and becoming huge rock stars. We had everything.. a name, our first album cover, everything but talent.

The band was to be called Not Food. This came from the various influences in the group.. we were everything but food. The first album was going to be Table for Six. The cover was going to be the five male members of the group in white tie standing behind a banquet table loaded with food. In the middle of this, lying on a serving platter, would be the sole female member holding an apple.

The back cover would be the apple with several bites taken out.

Well, we can't go back and do it over, but now I can at least see what the tape would have looked like...

Buh...

Checking Amazon for the new Iron Maiden album (six days!! poing!) I found these:

The Piano Tribute to Iron Maiden

The String Quartet Tribute to Iron Maiden

Of the two, the strings are closer to the actual sound of the songs. It's amusing to hear the violin used to simulate Bruce's scream on Number of the Beast. But still.. Buh?

More frighteningly, these are part of a series.. and they've done Slayer and Metallica.

This is too much fun!

Hate those cloying motivation posters found in offices? Make your own!

Here a re few I made today. I'm starting with Traveller-related stuff because this comes off a post in the Traveller Mailing List. That, and one that I would actually love to have on my wall.

My eyes!

The Worst Album Covers of All Time!

Notice the vast number of religious albums that make the cut.

Want to feel really creepy? Geraldine and Ricky are still touring! Evidently she's now billing herself as a Christian comedienne and doing these bizarre Christian cruises where they remove all the fun things in favor of turning the ship into a floating church.

I think my favorite is The Louvin Brothers - Satan is Real. Um, guys? Nice picture of flaming rocks, but could you have assigned the job of drawing Satan to someone other than your six-year-old nephew? Seriously, If I die and see that dude, I'm really not going to regret anything. Shit, steal something from H. R. Geiger or something.

Long live the Ox

I mentioned in my previous post that I had a brief flirtation with the bass guitar. John Entwistle is the reason why. When I first saw The Who in 1982, it wasn't Townshend leaping around or Daltrey spinning his microphone that caught my eye.. no, it was the tall guy off to one side. Not moving much, not being theatrical in the least; just slapping four strings and making the most amazing noise that shook you down to your DNA.

To this day my favorite Who songs are his. 905, My Wife, Success Story... all great tunes that feature thundering bass lines. But his best work with The Who has to be the semi-autobiographical The Quiet One

The street sof San Jose - A Quinn Martin Production

OK, I'm pretty much opposed to the whole San Jose Grand Prix. It's a money sink, disrupts our entire downtown, and at a time when we are begging people to conserve fuel, we invite gas-guzzling cars that lack even basic emissions controls to rip up our streets.

But this is cool. A video tour of the race course made with a professional driver at 120mph.

What do SRBs do all day?

Somebody at NASA has remembered that space flight is cool, and even cooler when we see it up close. Discovery had a camera mounted on the right SRB for this launch. The resulting 12 minute video follows the entire "career" of the SRB from launch, to separation, to splashdown. Amazing.

One suggestion for the NASA boys.. next time include a microphone.
