My new favorite song

I'm through with standing in line
To clubs we'll never get in
It's like the bottom of the ninth
And I'm never gonna win
This life hasn't turned out
Quite the way I want it to be

(Tell me what you want)

I want a brand new house
On an episode of Cribs
And a bathroom I can play baseball in
And a king size tub big enough
For ten plus me

(So what you need?)

I'll need a credit card that's got no limit
And a big black jet with a bedroom in it
Gonna join the mile high club
At thirty-seven thousand feet

(Been there, done that)

I want a new tour bus full of old guitars
My own star on Hollywood Boulevard
Somewhere between Cher and
James Dean is fine for me

(So how you gonna do it?)

I'm gonna trade this life for fortune and fame
I'd even cut my hair and change my name

[Chorus:]
'Cause we all just wanna be big rockstars
And live in hilltop houses driving fifteen cars
The girls come easy and the drugs come cheap
We'll all stay skinny 'cause we just won't eat
And we'll hang out in the coolest bars
In the VIP with the movie stars
Every good gold digger's
Gonna wind up there
Every Playboy bunny
With her bleach blond hair

Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar
Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar

I wanna be great like Elvis without the tassels
Hire eight body guards that love to beat up assholes
Sign a couple autographs
So I can eat my meals for free
(I'll have the quesadilla, uh huh)
I think I'm gonna dress my ass
With the latest fashion
Get a front door key to the Playboy mansion
Gonna date a centerfold that loves to
Blow my money for me
(So how you gonna do it?)
I'm gonna trade this life for fortune and fame
I'd even cut my hair and change my name

[Chorus]

And we'll hide out in the private rooms
With the latest dictionary and today's who's who
They'll get you anything with that evil smile
Everybody's got a drug dealer on speed dial

Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar
Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar

I'm gonna sing those songs
That offend the censors
Gonna pop my pills from a pez dispenser

I'll get washed-up singers writing all my songs
Lip sync em every night so I don't get 'em wrong

[Chorus]

And we'll hide out in the private rooms
With the latest dictionary and today's who's who
They'll get you anything with that evil smile
Everybody's got a drug dealer on speed dial

Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar
Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar

To get this from Apple's music store, we had to buy the album. Luckily, the whole thing is pretty good.

In other musical news, we were watching TV and some commercial used Everclear's AM Radio. I think we both immediately realized we needed that song. Luckily, [livejournal.com profile] kshandra had a free download coming.

The lyrics for this one are fun as well, and if you add two years to the dates given, you get my life in the 70s.

khj los angeles! Portions of the day’s programming are reproduced by means of electrical transcriptions or tape recordings.

You can hear the music on the am radio

The vcr and the dvd
There wasn’t none of that crap back in 1970
We didn’t know about a world wide web
It was a whole different game being played back when I was a kid

Wanna get down in a cool way
Picture yourself on a beautiful day
Big bell bottoms and groovy long hair
Just walkin’ in style with a portable cd player
No, you would listen to the music on the am radio
Yeah, you could hear the music on a am radio

Flashback, ’72
Another summer in the neighborhood
Hangin’ out with nothing to do
Sometmes we’d go drivin’ around
In my sister’s pinto
Cruisin’ with the windows rolled down
We’d listen to the radio station
We were too damn cool to buy the eight track tapes
There wasn’t any good time to want to be inside
My mama wanna watch that tv all goddamn night

I’d be in bed with the radio on
I would listen to it all night long
Just to hear my favorite song
You’d have to wait but you could hear it on the am radio
Yeah, you could hear the music on a am radio
I can still hear mama say "boy turn that radio down!"

Aw, mom. not that show again! I don’t wanna watch that show! can’t we watch Good Times or Chico and The Man or something cool? Turn it off!

Things changed back in ’75
We were all growing up on the in and the outside
We got in trouble with the police man
We got busted gettin’ high in the back of my friend’s van

I remember 1977
I started going to concerts and I saw the Led Zeppelin
I got a guitar on Christmas day
I dreamed that Jimmy Page would come to Santa Monica and teach me to play
Teach me to play...

There isn’t any place that I need to go
There isn’t anything that I need to know
I did not learn from the radio

Yeah when things get stupid and I just don’t know
Where to find my happy
I listen to my music on the am radio
You can hear the music on a am radio
You can hear the music on a am radio

I like pop, I like soul, I like rock, but I never liked disco
I like pop, I like soul, I like rock, but I never liked disco
We like pop, we like soul, we like rock, but we never liked disco...

No I never liked disco...

That song had the trippiest video.

I remember KLOK before it went Mexican. Heck, I know folks who used to work there!

Hehehe...you inadvertently bring back SO many of my childhood memories, Doug...and for that, you're awesome.

Hey, we're talking about when I was seven or so. So I listened to what my mom listened to.

Trust me, about 1976 I discovered rock, and was severely into KOME, KSAN, KFRC and KSJO. Hell, I even remember when KMEL rocked.

i prefered...

Yes/No Radio was a trippy little drama when I moved here in 1984. I still remember the wars over Pachelbel's Canon in D.
