Lyrics meme!

Seen in several places.

OK, I put iTunes on Party Shuffle, and here are the first lines from the first 20 songs to come up. You tell me the band and song title.

A couple of the songs had the title in the first line, so I skipped them (like Green Day's She's a Rebel. I also skipped the extremely obscure tunes, and the one in Klingonese. Final warning: there are two covers in this list.

Have at!

1. "I've had enough of being programmed"

2. "Do you have the time, to listen to me whine" [livejournal.com profile] pauldrye strikes!

3. "Well Billy rapped all night about his suicide" [livejournal.com profile] pauldrye and [livejournal.com profile] aurictech both called this at about the same time. (I have the Mott the Hoople version, BTW.)

4. "What’s on the other side of the wall?" [livejournal.com profile] isomeme got this one

5. "I was born with a plastic spoon in my mouth" [livejournal.com profile] isomeme again

6. "Don't go looking for snakes you might find them" [livejournal.com profile] kshandra shows that she's been married to me for a long time.

7. "Hello you, hello me" [livejournal.com profile] fangorn gets the best love song to music ever written.

8. "737 coming out of the sky" [livejournal.com profile] isomeme knows my musical tastes too well.

9. "She likes to sleep with the radio on" [livejournal.com profile] benkenobigal shoots and scores!

10. "When you were young, and your heart was an open book" Well, at least [livejournal.com profile] isomeme got the band wrong.

11. "We are scanning the scene" [livejournal.com profile] kath8562 and I headbang in unison to this one.

12. "I’ve got your picture of me and you" [livejournal.com profile] isomeme again

13. "Ah, I love to look into your big brown eyes" [livejournal.com profile] deathbytamarind gets one!

14. "They're selling postcards of the hanging" Go [livejournal.com profile] hellloooonurse!

15. "Winter is here again oh lord, haven’t been home in a year or more" [livejournal.com profile] aurictech remembers his 70s rock.

16. "You could have a steam train" [livejournal.com profile] deathbytamarind gets two!

17. "Well, I walk into the room, passing out hundred dollar bills" The mighty [livejournal.com profile] soldiergrrrl got this one.

18. "Close the city and tell the people that something's coming to call"

19. "I was talking with a friend of mine, said a woman had hurt his pride." Hurrah for [livejournal.com profile] ataniell93, even if she couldn't place it as a Tom Petty song.

20. "There goes the siren that warns of the air raid"

4. "What’s on the other side of the wall?"

The Tubes, "I Want It All Now"

5. "I was born with a plastic spoon in my mouth"

The Who, "Substitute"

8. "737 coming out of the sky"

CCR, "Travelling Band"

10. "When you were young, and your heart was an open book"

Paul McCartney (was it with Wings?), "Live and Let Die"

12. "I’ve got your picture of me and you"

The Vapors, "Turning Japanese"

Knowing Doug, #10 was probably the G&R cover. :-)

[identity profile] gridlore.livejournal.com 2006-02-19 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Give that man a cigar!

[identity profile] gridlore.livejournal.com 2006-02-19 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
All right, though as [livejournal.com profile] arib points out, I have the Guns & Roses version of Live and Let Die

[identity profile] deathbytamarind.livejournal.com 2006-02-19 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
13. Aerosmith - Deuces are Wild
16. Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer

[identity profile] gridlore.livejournal.com 2006-02-19 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Correct!

[identity profile] pauldrye.livejournal.com 2006-02-19 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
#2 is also Green Day, "Basketcase".

#9 is the Barenaked Ladies, I don't know its name.

#10 is Paul McCartney's James Bond song, "Live and Let Die".

[identity profile] gridlore.livejournal.com 2006-02-19 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
#2 correct!

The BNL song has the title in the final chourus.

17- "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" by Big & Rich

[identity profile] gridlore.livejournal.com 2006-02-19 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
So, does your darling husband have boots? Do you have spurs? Correct!

[identity profile] soldiergrrrl.livejournal.com 2006-02-19 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Boots? My darling husband doens't get to wear boots! I wear the boots.

But God, that's a fun song. I need to go dancing.

Duh! #3 is David Bowie, "All the Young Dudes". Not sure how I missed that first time around.

[identity profile] aurictech.livejournal.com 2006-02-19 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Honest, I didn't see your post when I answered below....

[identity profile] aurictech.livejournal.com 2006-02-19 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
#3: "All The Young Dudes," either Mott the Hoople or David Bowie (my guess would be live Bowie)

#15: "Wheel in the Sky," Journey

19. is either "Love Stinks" or "Don't Do Me Like That" and will drive me insane all day now.
kshandra: A cross-stitch sampler in a gilt frame, plainly stating "FUCK CANCER" (Clefs)

[personal profile] kshandra 2006-02-19 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the latter. The former begins

You love her
And she loves him
But he loves somebody else

6. Metallica, Slither

And damnit, I can hear #14, but the name is refusing to be dragged out into the light.

Okay, I'm stumped

[identity profile] fangorn.livejournal.com 2006-02-19 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
7. "Hello you, hello me"

If that _is_ "A Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy" by The Kinks, why hasn't anyone already said so? And if it _isn't_, what the heck is it?

Anyway, my call is Kinks, baby.

Right you are!

why hasn't anyone already said so?

Because I could hear that first line (I actually sang it to Doug because it was driving me bonkers) and couldn't get any further with it, so he spoiled it for me.

#9 "War on Drugs" Bare Naked Ladies

[identity profile] gridlore.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
I was wondering if anyone would get that. One of my favorite songs of theirs.

[identity profile] benkenobigal.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
That's thanks to John. :) Most of the great BNL songs come from him!

[identity profile] hellloooonurse.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
14. "They're selling postcards of the hanging" - Bob Dylan "Desolation Row" :)

[identity profile] gridlore.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm amazed it took this long for that one to go.

Man, this one was a 'blast' from the past (pardon the pun)

11. "We are scanning the scene"

Metallica -- Seek and Destroy

[identity profile] gridlore.livejournal.com 2006-02-21 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yep! The version that came up for this was the eighteen minute version off Live Shit: Binge and Purge
