There's also the Aussie tradition of following the underdog, or perenniel loser... Collingwood in the Aussie Rules competition went for 60 years without a grand final win, but their loyal fans would show up week in and week out during the season.
This is why I hope the Red Soxs make it through to the World Series. :)

Here's the irony, though: I've never handled a gun in my life. When I was younger, before I understood the Second Amendment's purpose and context, I had the standard liberal attitude about gun control: "Guns bad, let's get rid of as many as we can." Even now, it's all about other people's rights to bear arms.
Guns scare me a little - the potential for mishap, the responsibility involved in carrying a potentially deadly weapon. I'd rather not have that. (I'm aware that this choice may mean that someday I wind up on the other end of one, being threatened/coerced or worse. So be it.)
One consequence of this is that I have immense respect for all the men and women who, by serving as military or police, make bearing arms a choice/luxury for me.

Steve, you've been a wonderful friend for many years. I've valued your advice on matters technological and musical, and enjoyed listening to you perform.

Hey, when you get comissioned, are you going to make him salute you before bed?
TMI. . .
Well, unless we're doing the Lieutenant Disciplining Mouthy NCO scene. That's entirely different.
Re: TMI. . .
One, two, three, TWO!
One, two, three, THREE!
One, two, three, FOUR!
One, two, three, HALT!
Was it good for you?
Re: TMI. . .
A 2-hour scene is a _quicky_. That wouldn't even get me warmed up.

You remind me of me. A lot of potential that you hide behind a goofy attitude. The difference being that you do something with that potential. Your artwork also rocks.

M'lady, I am in constant awe of you. We "met" under the worst of circumstances, but out of that we've forged a strong bond. I am inspired by your strength of will. You may not see it, but you are a rock. I can't wait to see you in person! In five days! WOO!
