My God I'm old meme.

Where were you when:

1. JFK was assassinated (1963): I hadn't been born yet
2. Man first landed on the moon (1969): I probably watched it, but I was only three.
3. Watergate broke (1972): I remember the hearings, and the resignation of the President.
4. 3-Mile Island occurred (1979): I was in 7th grade, and heard about it on the news.
5. John Lennon was assassinated (1980): I was grounded, and my best friend ran over to my bedroom window to tell me the news.
6. The Shuttle Challenger exploded (1986): I was on the beach watching it. My third shuttle launch. :(
7. The Berlin Wall came down (1989): I think I was actually watching CNN when the story broke.
8. 9/11 (2001): I had just gotten home from work, and gone to bed when [livejournal.com profile] rosefox woke me up to tell me the news.

Did you see the following movies in the theatre (or were at least around)?:

1. Sound of Music (1965): Not around yet.
2. The Godfather (1972): Not the kind of movie you take a 6 year old to see.
3. Star Wars – Episode 4 (1977): Oh, yeah! Front row, baby!
4. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981): Yup. Probably with some friends from high school.
5. E.T. (1982): Yes, with family. [livejournal.com profile] isomeme and I worked out the details of ET's home world.
6. Braveheart (1995): Not in the theatre.
7. Lord of the Rings – The Fellowship of the Ring (2001): If it wasn't opening night, it was damn close.

1. What year did you graduate high school? 1984
2. What did you wear to your graduation (under your robe/gown)? Can't recall.
3. Was your hair long or short? As I recall, I had bushy hair.
4. What was the first concert you went to (without your parents)? Probably The Kinks at the Greek Theater.
5. Do you still know your high school’s alma mater? Never learned it. School spirit was not my strong point.
6. Were your Physical Ed. classes co-ed? Yes

isomeme and I worked out the details of ET's home world.
Do tell. (UPP optional. :)

Well, from the body shape, we figured ET to be somewhat amphibious. The extending neck seemed to be perfect for getting above water or vegetation for a look around. ET had no problem with our gravity, so world size is roughly the same (ignoring variations in density for the moment.)

ET evolved for a cold climate. Exposure to the SoCal sun left him nearly comatose, and looking bleached. Obviously he was suffering from sunstroke. Time in the government cooler perked him right up!

Given his preference for working at night, along with the large eyes, it can be surmised that their local star is a bit dimmer than Sol, possibly a G8 V or lower.

So we have a cool world with lots of water. It probably has a moon, since ET looks like a crteature that would evolve in tidal marshes.

Excellent reasoning. His skin also has that "amphibious" look to it.

Interesting alternate explanation for his illness. I guess I figured he picked up some kind of bug during their forest excursion.

*waves a freshly gotted copy of 11-7-87 at the Henry J. Kaiser at you by a certain band of some note*

Soundboard, too, so it's about the best possible quality.

Hey, I was at that show! Best show ever! Burn me a copy, please?

Does it have all the cheering between the end of "Not Fade Away" and "Knocking On Heaven's Door"?

[identity profile] docwebster.livejournal.com 2004-09-04 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Near as I can tell, it does. Not as loud as you might think, given that it's a soundboard and not an audience recording, but it's there.

Heck, I was going to play it verbatim on the show tonight. You going to be around?

[identity profile] gridlore.livejournal.com 2004-09-04 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I might try to tune in.. but I still want a copy, please?

Oh, sure. You doubted it?

I'm on AIM if IRC isn't to your fancy, although it'd be nice to have you on IRC to give some background on the show to the assembled as someone who was actually there.
