Heavy Metal Sunday goes ashore on +1

To continue the celebration of D-Day's 65th anniversary, we proudly present a cut off Iron Maiden's most recent effort, A Matter of Life and Death.

D-Day has often been referred to as "the longest day." This comes from a quote by Erwin Rommel: "...the first 24 hours of the invasion will be decisive...the fate of Germany depends on the outcome...for the Allies, as well as Germany, it will be the longest day." That description of the actions of June 6th have been applied to books, a very good film, and to today's song. Set brilliantly to the stunning opening sequence from Saving Private Ryan, we present Iron Maiden's The Longest Day (lyrics here)

A sort of update thingy.

  • We didn't go to see Tosca Friday night. Lingering illness on my part, and the snafu with Kiri's unemployment paperwork meant that making the trip was an expense we could do without. Bit of a bummer, because from what I've heard watching opera on the big screen at AT&T is a blast.

  • Maybe next year.

  • The viral infection is gone (thank Halford) but a cold bug moved in to replace it.

  • June in California. Rain, occasional thunderstorms, cold winds.

  • Wait, June where? This is not normal. Not complaining about getting any rain we can get, but I'd like my nice NorCal summer, please.

  • We're less than two months to the Montreal trip.

  • Time to panic, yes?

  • But we do have cool new luggage, chosen by Kirsten.

  • Which means they're purple, natch.

  • Giants are doing well. Alas, the Dodgers are doing better.

  • I have discovered a new, special kind of Hell. Wearing dentures with a cold sore.

  • Finished Robert Swayer's latest: WWW: Wake. This is your Hugo winner for Best Novel next year. Read it.

  • Seekrit message to [livejournal.com profile] calculass: Can't wait for the next book!

  • I must do some laundry today. Two loads, at least.

  • Another cloudy, miserable day. I want my summer!

One way to guarantee my truck will be repaired.

The truck I'm using at work does not have a tape deck I can plug my iPod into. This has meant no music for me. (No radio stations in America play mixes I like... at least not during daylight hours.)

But it does have a CD player. So I'm making mix CDs. Which means my truck will be repaired by Tuesday.
