Heavy Metal Sunday kind of screwed up.

For some reason, I got it in my head that I started doing this last September, and so was planning to do the anniversary post around this time. Then I checked, and saw that the very first Heavy Metal Sunday was on August 19th.

Oops.

But since then, I've made 63 entires with the Heavy Metal Sunday tag. One or two were administrative stuff, and several had multiple videos. I've done my best to avoid repeating too many bands and have tried to cover the wide, wild world of metal. Hope y'all have enjoyed watching as much as I've enjoyed finding these things for you.

But how to celebrate? Well, since I started with very early Metallica, why not go with a track off their most recent album? So, from Death Magnetic, enjoy The Day That Never Comes. I think the video is pretty damn good.

Hell, 13 months is more metal than 12 anyway.

And nobody taped this?

Doing a little Wiki surfing, I am amazed to learn that for a brief time Jim Bakker shared a prison cell with Lyndon LaRouche.

That's not reality, that's the opening of a Tim Powers novel!

Now that was highly unpleasant.

I've been fighting some low-level bug for days. Nothing major, just a little off.

But a short while ago, things turned nasty. I suddenly developed a terrible stomach ache, felt flushed, and was achy all over. I went in to take a hot shower (my cure for everything) and then...

Well, suffice to say that my cleaning the john this morning was a wasted effort. And I'm very happy that my teeth weren't in. That took care of the stomach pain at least. Kirsten came in ready to bundle me off to the hospital, if necessary, and I'll admit I was seriously thinking the ER was in my immediate future.

I think I'm taking the rest of the day easy.

Luckily, the Niners are playing well. The Giants are currently in a scoreless affair in the 4th inning.

Another good weekend for my teams.

San Francisco Giants: 1
Los Angeles Dodgers: 0 (11 innings)

Rich Aurillia gets the only RBI of the game in the 11th. The big baseball rumor in Giants Nation right now concerns a possible trade with the Milwaukee Brewers. We'd send Matt Cain (RHP) and get Prince Fielder (power-hitting 1B), J.J Hardy (SS) and the ever-popular Player To Be Named Later.

As much as I like Cain (his bobblehead is on the computer desk,) if this is legitimate, we need to jump on this deal now. In four seasons Fielder has averaged an OPS of .901 with 36 HR and 98 RBIs. Hardy has a .776 OPS average, with an average of 23 HR and 78 RBIs a season.

San Francisco 49ers: 31
Detroit Lions: 13

Yeah, it's the Lions. But we're not supposed to be that good this season, and a convincing win was what we needed. Frank Gore ran for 130 yards and a TD.

Flash mobs, poll edition.

from [livejournal.com profile] kengr

PBS is conducting a poll on whether or not folks feel that Sarah Palin is qualified to be VEEP (or God forbid, PRES). and the right is organizing a YES vote-in. Please vote at the link below. We can turn this around. And pass it around.........
