Heavy Metal Sunday kind of screwed up.

For some reason, I got it in my head that I started doing this last September, and so was planning to do the anniversary post around this time. Then I checked, and saw that the very first Heavy Metal Sunday was on August 19th.

Oops.

But since then, I've made 63 entires with the Heavy Metal Sunday tag. One or two were administrative stuff, and several had multiple videos. I've done my best to avoid repeating too many bands and have tried to cover the wide, wild world of metal. Hope y'all have enjoyed watching as much as I've enjoyed finding these things for you.

But how to celebrate? Well, since I started with very early Metallica, why not go with a track off their most recent album? So, from Death Magnetic, enjoy The Day That Never Comes. I think the video is pretty damn good.

Hell, 13 months is more metal than 12 anyway.

How's the rest of the album?

I reviewed it last week (http://gridlore.livejournal.com/1288063.html). In short, they sound like Metallica again.

Excellent. I was looking at the track list, and when I saw that they did an "Unforgiven III" I was a little dubious.

The video was great, with about the same amount of tension in the end as the saipang scene from Apocalypse Now. The song itself... it just doesn't have the same drive as One, for example. Metallica may sound like themselves again, but there's still this pesky pop-metal overtone.

This isn't the strongest track on the album. But it was the first to have a music video, and I liked the theme.
