Hey, the government actually helps!

This morning Kirsten was checking her phone as we woke up and told me that I needed to call Social Security. A full disability payment had landed in our account. I crawl out to my desk and call them. After navigating the annoying computer (really, after the third time I ask to speak with an agent, it should just put me in the queue) I reach a human and explain that I had returned to work in January and was surprised to see more money come in.

Turns out that I'm supposed to get it, and will keep getting payments through August. It's a program designed to help people with disabilities re-enter the work force by providing them a little extra financial stability, and if I should have problems that force me to leave my job, I'm still in the system. This is a huge relief. Also, I'm carried on the system as an inactive account for the next 36 months. So if something else breaks, I don't need to go through to whole application process again.

Needless to say, this is a good thing of the first order. It means we can really beat down the credit card debt and get some much-needed car maintenance taken care of sooner rather than later.
