Sometimes, baseball is pain.

(I was at Nationals Park for a similar first inning last year-- the opposing team had 6 runs on the board and the bases loaded before there was a single out. We switched pitchers and gave up still more runs. We were down 11-0 by the time we got out of the first inning. I'm STILL not sure I've forgiven Jason Marquis for that inning, and he's been pitching great for us this year.)

Curious: how much change occurred in the lineup from last year?

This is one reason why I am not a follower of base ball; teams are a quaint by-word. "Employees" and "talent" is the new paradigm in big $ sports.

We lost Edgar Renteria (SS) and Juan Uribe (3B/SS). Those are the only changes from the post-season roster. Even though he was the World Series MVP, Giants fans weren't sorry to see Renteria go. He was plagued by injuries during his tenure with us. Uribe was more of a loss, but he's having a horrible season with the Blue Menace.

What's killing us this year is injuries. We lost our Rookie of the Catcher for the year, have probably lost our All-Star second baseman, it never ends.

Last night was an aberration. Pitchers will have those kinds games once or twice in their career where nothing works and you can't buy an out.
