Writer's Block: Batter up!

This is going to sound weird, but pancakes and sausage out of a Mermite can on a cold day in the field. Pancakes were one of the few foods able to survive the trip from kitchen to a field area, and were hot, filling, and we got gallon jugs of syrup to share. Scarf the pancakes, eat the non-rubber sausages, wash everything down with a scalding black tarry substance that claimed to be coffee, and you are ready to rock and roll.

Oh, man, that just brought back some memories. Army sausage was GOOD.

Did you ever get good scrambled eggs out of a Mermite? Gray eggs could not saved even by Tabasco

What's Mermite?

best,

Joel. Who really should invade your kitchen and make you some good pancakes sometime.

Allegedly insulated containers the cooks used to ship allegedly hot food to units out playing in the woods. The travel time and bouncing over poor or no roads did interesting things to the food by the time it got out to us.
