Strike Two!

Went to see another place tonight. Not only was the person who was supposed to show the place late, and there was another person also waiting, but the building was a trash-strewn hole. The obvious gang members hanging around sealed the deal. We left without a second thought.

Two more on Saturday. Wish us luck.

I've got something of a mini-care package to send you two, or more precisely will in a couple weeks time once I can afford some blank DVDs. Where should I send same?

You can always send stuff to my place - especially while I'm still on vacation and can sign for stuff if necessary. E-mail me if you want the snail mail addy.

Do you need to be in San Jose, or would something up my Fremont way be acceptable?

Kirsten says "Warm Springs, maybe, but not much father up the freeway than that." She works in Sunnyvale, and would prefer to avoid the horrendous 237 commute.

Ah, okay. This is the company (http://www.apm7.com/apm/Rental_Homes.html) from which I found my current place, and they have other available properties, but mostly in Centerville and northward. This one (http://www.apm7.com/apm/RoyalAnn38523.html), for instance, is about a mile from where I live near the Amtrak/ACE commuter train station.

Sounds like you'd be better off in a tent. How can landlords treat people this way?

My sole excursions into darkest San Jose were (a) a meal at a local Vietnamese restaurant, and (b) a private tour of the Computer History Museum. Guess I missed the underbelly, sorry.

You didn't miss much. Like any big city, San Jose has good and bad neighborhoods. This place was in a decent neighborhood, but it was obvious that the building owners didn't give a damn. The people I saw hanging out in front were obviously NorteƱo XIII members. We used to have an in with N.13, but I wouldn't bet on it today.

I'm really surprised that in a buyers' market like we have today that we've now been left waiting twice by prospective landlords.

Next time you're out we'll take you to the Winchester Mystery House and The Tech museum.
