Strike 4!

I'm really starting to consider going to [livejournal.com profile] fr_john and discussing a possible trip to Lourdes as a viable option rather than dealing with Kaiser any longer.

I'm really concerned that this back/leg problem is something more than a strain. I'm really feeling it a lot in my hip sockets. Assuming, for the moment, that I am going to be mobility impaired for while, I decided to see what Kaiser would charge me for a wheelchair for Baycon weekend (or one of those mobility scooters.. then we could have drag races!) Their website is a fucking mess. Impossible to find anything on. So now I have to figure out where all the hard copy stuff went and look it up, and then figure out who to call!

Anybody know how much such a rental is offhand? I don't need a powered chair, I've got two good arms and I'm sure my legion of fans/minions would be available to lend some horsepower. I'll just need a way to get from point A to B without walking.

Just as a data point: renting a wheelchair for the day at an amusement park is in the $10-12 range and a powered "mobility scooter" is $35-40.

I called American Medical & Equipment at random, gave them your height & weight, and was told ~$35 for a week's rental of an unpowered chair.

Quotes seem to be about the same from place to place....

These guys are all but literally around the corner from my office, and open until 1800 during the week, so I'll pick one up from them on Wednesday. (Meaning I clean out the car Tuesday, but that's no biggie.

At Kaiser, you call your doctor and they order it for you. If you go through them, It's Free!
We eventually bought a chair for Big Harold, because we were taking it to England with us.
If you want to borrow it, you would have to pick it up (the Prius will already be full of people and suitcases for Baycon), but we could let you borrow it, if it is just for the weekend.
Hope Kaiser is right and it is just a strained back and that you get better soonest!

Oh, if you borrow ours you should be warned - it will be WAY bigger than you need, since it is sized for a 250 pound man. :)

Huh, sharp pain in hip[s], shooting down the leg[s]? Mostly upper legs, but maybe all the way down to the ankle/foot?
If so, I feel your pain (literally), 'cause it sounds like you have sciatica.
Nerve pinched either between two muscles or bone and muscle above the hip. So, in a way it is a pinched nerve--it's better, though, if it is taken care of now, and not ignored--(did that years ago, and it comes back to haunt me every so often).
