No more Dragon Magazine?

Mind you I've not subscribed since issue 70ish, but still....

That's sad...I wonder if anyone else will take over publishing?

Doubtful. WOTC has stated that the content will be web-based now.

This isn't new. SJG took Pyramid from print to web (and later resurrected The Journal of the Travellers' Aid Society) with great success. From a business standpoint, it makes sense. Magazines in the gaming world are traditional money losers that get published either to keep interest up in between releases (for house organs) or to provide space for articles that don't fit genre or system conventions. Both these functions can be handled by web sites.

But damnit, The Dragon (yes, I'm old school) was part of the gaming world. Everyone read it, photocopied articles, and argued about E.G.G.'s latest column.

George Taylor: You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!

Well it has not been a must read since the early 80's when it covered more of the hobby and there were fewer bound supplements to buy.

It had its ups and downs. Depends on the editor. The Monte Cook era was a low point, for the most part, with his straight-jacketing of authors (One of my first professional submissions was to Cook) and questionable taste in articles.

I still mourn the two best gaming mags in history, Different Worlds and Shadis.

Oh, did you know that in Planet of the Apes the only place the name "George" is used for Heston's character is in the credits? Throughout the movie he is called Taylor and nothing else.
