I've found a drawback to living in California.

Do you have any idea how hard it would be for me to go on a three state crime spree? Hell, the closest state line is a five or six hour drive away! All the drama is lost if you have to keep stopping for gas!

I could go on a five-county crime spree, but it just doesn't have the same glamor, y'know?

I was going to say just be glad you don't live in Canada...

...but then I realized that the Maritime provinces aren't that big. If you started in PEI and cut your fuse long you could bomb Green Gables and accomplish both arson (of a literary monument/tourist trap) and mass murder (of the hordes of Japanese tourists visiting it) and be over the causeway and into Nova Scotia before anybody knew.

The problem, of course, is that Nova Scotia just really doesn't lend itself to spectacularly heinous crimes of a novel, Faux News-worthy nature. Throwing Ashley MacIsaac to the moose springs to mind, but who outside of the East Coast music scene has ever heard of him? And where do you go for the next province? New Brunswick? Newfoundland?

Just be glad you don't live in Canada, OK? It's a country where both geography and culture conspire against the aspiring tabloid oddity.

That's not a crime so much as it's a mercy killing. Mercy for everyone else, I mean.
