The Legend of Hybrid...

The RPG industry has its legendarily bad games.. Spawn of Fashan, FATAL, Racial Holy War, SenZar, but nothing exceeds in sheer ability to stun a gamer like Hybrid.

This puppy hasn't even been published, and it is a legend. You see, the "author" likes to make long rambling posts to gaming groups consisting of nothing but excruciating mathematical formula describing how his system models obscure Marvel and DC characters. He will go on for several hundred lines, no breaks, without once defining his terms. We'll ridicule him, he'll go away, only to return to claim that his RPG rules are modeled on the very laws of reality!

Today, I finally went out to his webpage.

Oh, my lack of God.

This rivals the infamous Timecube. I'm rolling to disbelieve.

Ladies and gentlemen, enter if you dare. Hold onto to your SAN. I give you H Y B R I D: V 0.21

I think it long since stopped being a game.

This is an obsessive-compulsive who tries to affix numbers to everything and has no other skills. As such, he applies the hammer of mathematics to all the nails he sees, including the ones that are really tables, people, oceans, continents, and voting booths.

This will amuse you. I was just playing around in Google Groups, and found the Great Inphobia Flame Fest. Been ten years since "Hey Net Punks" graced our screens...

I agree. In fact, I would say that this is what autism looks like.

Wow.
since creating women in my rpg requires politically incorrect math, you know, if they math like that in high school, I would have enjoyed it more.

Oh, my lack of God.

That just made my day. :-)

I wish I coulkd take credit, but that's a line from a Champions campaign I ran years ago. My friend Charles was playing Gregor, the Soviet Super-Defective Defector. A hero known for his bravery, skill, and utter lack of brains.

In one scenario, I had just revealed the Big Enemy, and Charles, in a perfect Russian accent, utter the immortal "oh, my lack of God" line.

H Y B R I D may be awful, but for pure "Eye of Argon" style reading I say you can't beat 'World Tree'

Classy Spells: Clean the Wooden dish, Clean the Clay dish.

Monsters: "Imagine a crab 6 feet from side to side, but instead of 8 crab legs it has 4 puma legs"

Yep, World Tree. Because you don't need that many San points.

I got this far:

since women are too complicated to make in my rpg, since creating women in my rpg requires politically incorrect math

And stopped.

I can't.

I just... can't.

Great Googaly Moogaly.

Wow. What incredible brilliance. What stupidity in implementation.

(You see, it all makes sense TO HIM. What he doesn't get is why the rest of us don't understand . . .)

Oh my gods. I haven't seen anything that convoluted since the gentleman [livejournal.com profile] lysana and I kept seeing around Santa Rosa Junior College that was was passing around info that he claimed proved that Stephen King had been the assassin of John Lennon.

Oy.
