Tonight's game...

In 1315, the King of France moved against the Templars, seizing their assets and trying many of them for heresy. Among these knights was Jaques DeMolay, Grandmaster of the Order. He was beheaded.

When, four hundred years laters, the King of France was executed, legend has it that a man yelled "Jacques DeMolay, you are avenged!"

Bill Buckner, you are avenged.

Boston Red Sox: 3
St. Louis Cardinals: 0

Boston wins the series in a four-game sweep.

Let me repeat that. The freaking Boston Red Sox are baseball's world champions.

HOOYAH!

First time ever a team has won 8 in a row in the post season, IIRC..

Christ. First the Atlanta Braves, and now the Red Sox?

What's left? The friggin' CUBS?

Longest droughts:

Chicago Cubs: 1908
Chicago White Sox: 1917
Cleveland Indians: 1951
San Francisco Giants: 1954 (technically, they were the New York Giants when they beat the Indians.. so we've NEVER had a WS winner in Sodomy on the Bay.)

Right then, the Apocalypse can be foretold by this: a subway series in Chicago where the Cubs win, followed the next year by a repeat in which the Sox win. Or vice-versa. If this looks like it's about to happen, head for the bomb shelters, folks; the Horsemen shall ride from Wrigley Field.

And by this we can conclude that it really, really sucks to be a baseball fan in Chicago.

YAY!!!

"Bill Buckner, you are avenged!"? Nah, that won't happen until the Red Sox beat the Mets in the series.

But it's pretty clear that the Curse of the Bambino is DEAD, DEAD, DEAD.

Buckner's error came with the Sox one out away from winning.

The Sox were one out away from elimination when things turned around. I think it works.
