Grrrr....

Madden 2005 for the PC runs only under Me/XP. Not Win98.

So I'm going to need to get a PS2, since I really want all the improvements in 2K5. For example:

- The players no longer just care about the money. If your star wide receiver is making the Pro Bowl and getting several catches a game, he'll re-sign in a heartbeat. On the other hand, if you don't throw to him, or trade away his favorite quarterback, he'll demand a trade. In the same vein, if you have a winning team, it's easier to sign free agents.

- You can custom design some of your fans. You know those crazies who show up painted in the team colors, or wear capes? They can be in your stands!

- An improved NFL News gives you hometown newspaper stories on your team, as well as other goings on around the league.

- You now get game plans specific to your next opponent handed you by your offensive and defensive coordinators. The Titans have been giving up 150+ yards on the ground? The offensive plan will be heavy on runs and play-action passes. The Ravens have a battered offensive line with two rookies starting? A lot of blitzes will be in the plan.

- The hit stick. When you really want to level the ball carrier, you can lay a massive hit on him. But be careful, going for the big hit sometimes means a missed tackle!

- Improvements on defense make it easier to assign double-teams, man-on-man coverage, and zone assignments.

*sigh*

But I can't afford a PS2.

I need to write something. I wish SJG would get the updated wish list up.

Wouldn't it be cheaper (not to mention more helpful) to upgrade your computer rather than buy a PS2?

From everything I've heard about Me, it's not worth the hassle. My next system is going to be either Mac or a Linux box with loads of happy emulators. (Or both!)

I'm sick of MickeySquash and it's bloatware.

I was a longtime doubter about XP, but I had to switch when my last computer went kaflooey. I've been convinced since.

ME was invented by the devil, but I wouldn't be overly concerned about a switch to XP.

I am concerned. I accidentally got XP on this laptop. I had run into a problem with Paypal, so in trhe scramble to get the money to the seller, I'd forgotten to tell him I wanted it with Win2k, not XP.

I've kept XP because I do need to learn it to support people, and it was too much hassle to sdend back.

But I've already discovered (due to using my preferred firewall instead of the built-in one) that XP "phones home" at the oddest times. Tiumes I don't want it trying to.

Times like when I'm doing a search for a string in files on my *local* drives.

I flat out do not trust MS.

Macs are definatly the best!! I have a Gateway now (for college) and it's XP and I love it. I have Max X but I love everything before that.

Does the shiny thing run on Win2K? If so, you could look at something that runs that - it's less intrusive than XP (and has less crap and so runs faster), and much, much more stable than ME (not that this would be hard).

JTAS articles.

Write a few mercenary tickets, or some adventures for military types, or some casual encounters for military types. I suspect you could write a few great articles really quickly...

Um...

...I've got a Dell P3/450 box with a 20GB drive and 256 of RAM that'll run 2K without any problem.

It was free, nad I've decided I don't actually need it. You want?

Sure! I'd be happy to take it off your hands.

Thanks much!
