Someone I used to know was worried about a string of burglaries in the (bad) part of town that he lived in.

So he took to sleeping with his gun *and* knife under his pillow. He practiced throwing the knife and aiming the gun.

Then one night he comes awake to find someone entering the bedroom.

Grab! Throw!

... and he found himself trying to shoot the knife, having thrown the pistol at the burglar.

The burglar boogied. Our best guess was that he knew what a "throw down" piece was and figured that's what the gun that'd been thrown at him was.
