gridlore: Doug looking off camera with a grin (Baseball - Giants)

Slam. Slam. Slam.

That's the sound of me hitting my heading against a wall.

Last night, I settled in to watch he Giants play the Marlins.. After giving up a four-run first inning, and then muffing an easy out at first, I decided that I was going to bed (I was very tired from work) and miss the inevitable slaughter. Get up this morning, pull up the SFGate, and..

San Francisco Giants: 12
Florida Marlins: 9

What happened right after I turned the TV off? Well, the Giants fell behind 9-2. Then we came to bat.

Brian Dallimore, a 30 year old rookie in his first major league at bat after nine years in the minors, hits a grand slam. The fifth major-leaguer since 1974 to hit a slam for his first hit. Bobby Bonds was another. Marquis Grissom had four singles and Pedro Feliz drove in three runs. The Giants had 16 hits.

This wackiness comes a day after an Oakland Tribune article claimed that newly-acquired catcher A.J. Pierzynski. (We call him D.P Pierzynski, since he seems to enjoy hitting into double plays so much) is a cancer in the clubhouse, with the work ethic of a drunken slug. He didn't play yesterday, but that, and a meeting run by Bonds on the Giants' hitting woes seem to have made a difference.

I, of course, slept through it all. :)

We've been calling him Captian Groundout.

Interesting about Pierzynski. From what I'd heard about his reputation prior to this, he's one of those guys who gets in the face of the lazy. One or the other has to be wrong, or something's changed radically.
