I'm off to LA

So I can chain Harry Turtledove to his desk and make him write the next trilogy in his US/CSA series. I just finished American Empire: The Victorious Opposition. Amazing. Simply amazing.

What was interesting was the number of characters from the first five books that he killed off. These characters were al entering their sixties, so they wouldn't be overly active in the next books, but it was sad to see some favorites pass away. His choice of deaths was amusing. Blood infection after cutting self while preparing a chicken dinner, dying "in the saddle", shot by a depressed lover.. nobody goes easy in a Turtledove book!

So, I'm going to LA. If I can get SF fans on the jury, I might even beat the rap!

Have you read Turtledove's In The Presence Of Mine Enemies yet?

Not yet, I could only afford one hardback, and feeding the ongoing story was more important.

I've gotten Kirsten hooked, she's reading through Counting Down, Counting Up right now.. and American Front is sitting on her nightstand, calling to her...

BTW, I agree that it's likely that far too much time will pass before we see the next book in the "American Empire" series. Indeed, IMHO, too much time has already passed. After all, I read The Victorious Opposition *months* ago! Turtledove should have had another volume waiting on the shelf for me....

Well, American Empire is over. What we get next is the final trilogy.. covering the Second World War.

After killing off so many characters (Repos dans la paix, chère Lucien) he's cleared the decks for something BIG.

Turtledovian Body counts

You think Turtledove produces high body counts? read some Ringo... ask nicely he might even put in one of his books.
