As my ego reaches critical mass.

As most of you know, I have on occasion written role-playing games. My biggest work so far was GURPS Traveller: Ground Forces. That book has received much acclaim. People often rank it as one of the best Traveller supplements ever.

This is good for my ego.

Now, we have an oft-delayed book detailing the Imperial Navy. It has gone through several sets of authors. People have started a movement to draft me to take over as primary author. That's rather amazing, in my opinion.

Let's see if the publisher agrees.

Megajoule lasers, meson accelerators, particle accelerators, and my favorite, the nuclear-pumped X-ray laser warhead equipped missile.

Megajoule lasers? *yawn*.

Now *gigajoule* lasers would be fun.

"How powerful are their weapons?" asks the captain of the ethically challenged merchant.

"Let me put it this way. If one of their main guns scores a direct hit, the ship will be vaporized."

"Oh.... Sparks! Send 'We surrender!'"

Actual moment from a game I ran when High Guard was new and the Earth was still cooling.

Me: "The cruiser demands that you prepare to be boarded."

Player: "Ha! We'll never surrender! How tough can they be?"

Me: "They have individual weapon bays larger than your ship."

Player: "Right! Cut power, and everyone into their best uniforms to greet our visitors."

Ah. That *was* the post I had in mind when I wrote that. Hadn't realized it was yours. :-)
