Walkabout

Following my doctor's advice, I've been getting out to walk when I can. I figure I'll start keeping track of my meandering here.

Today, I walked down to the Branham Post Office to mail an EDD form, because the carrier didn't take it from the box, and San Jose doesn't seem to believe in curbside boxes.

Round trip distance: roughly 2 miles

Time: I'd say about 45 minutes to an hour. I stopped to chat with a cabbie, and didn't wear my watch.

The weather is in the mid-70s, with 65% humidity. Chance of T-storms, and I can see some thunderheads off in the far distance. What I need to do is get out earlier, and put off the morning netting until I've gotten my exercise. I also need a water bottle like [livejournal.com profile] kshandra has.

Other than sweating like a pig, I feel good. My feet are a little sore, but the lungs are fine, and my lower back is pain free.

What I need is one of those digital pedometers like my mom has.

Few things clear my head and improve my mood better than a long, brisk walk. Sometimes I drop into a sort of trance and can barely remember covering miles of ground. My favorite long-distance walking venue is the path along Santa Monica Bay from the Marina up past the Santa Monica Pier; three miles without a single cross-street or change of level to break my reverie.

Lots of folks seemed to have pedometers at Torcon. I was told you can get 'em at Walmart for around $14. I don't know whether K-Mart (closer to you, right?) has them too.
