The pennant is flying at half-staff

Giants great Bobby Bonds has died of lung cancer. He was 57.

Known as one of the first players to combine homerun power with the ability to steal bases. Despite his lifetime numbers, he was always overshadowed by his long-time teammate and good friend Willie Mays. (Career numbers)

Barry is course skipping today's game to be with his family. Bobby was at the park Wednesday to see his son, widely acknowledged as one of the greatest players of all time, play.

I think the saddest thing is Bobby will never see Barry win the World Series.

(Oh, to all my friends who smoke. Please stop now. Bobby Bonds was a world-class athlete, and he died at 57. He died from an easily prevented disease. Give them coffin nails up now. Thank you.)

As Bobby Bonds also spent time as a Redbird (I remember watching him play), it's a day of mourning in the NationStates nations of TheManStan and New Musialstan.

Have you considered moving your states to The Spinward Marches?

TheManStan and New Musialstan are comfortably situated in the various Meritocratic regions. However, I think that it's about time to create a new nation in the Marches. I suspect that Leander is still available as a nation name....

Leander was taken. However, The Oppressed Peoples of Tanoose (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=display_nation/nation=tanoose) have moved into The Spinward Marches.

I could have offered something up with The Man when he burned. Rest easy, Bobby.
