kshandra and I saw The Matrix Reloaded last night.

In the immortal words of Neo: Woah.

This is not a mindless summer action flick. While it has incredible action scenes (including some of the best martial arts ever put on the screen and a fourteen minute car chase that sets the new world standard) it explores many interesting concepts like fate, destiny, and what it means to be truly free. Do not check your brain at the door for this film!

Wisely, the directors let Hugo Weaving chew the scenery as Agent Smith. He's so much fun to watch. We also get to see the city of Zion, and get so more detail on the character's backgrounds.

Like any middle film, this is a set up for the final installment, Matrix Revolution, coming this fall. After the shocking revelations in this one, I can't wait to see how it all ends!

That we did. More than half the crowd left at the start of the credits; gridlore was shouting at them all to sit back down. ;-)

We all played hooky this morning to go see the first show at the Grove (newish high-end theater in LA). It was better than I expected, and my expectations were pretty high. My only major critique is that the last forty minutes or so felt rushed and compressed, like they'd planned on having that part in the third movie and then hastily reshuffled plot into this one.

And yes, those who are going to see it this weekend, be sure to sit through the credits - all TEN MINUTES of them, amazing - and see the teaser for "Revolutions". Interesting implications in what it shows.
