Unclear on the Concept Award

According to the SFGate, critical information regarding Air Force One's missile defenses and vulnerable spots was posted on a public website. This is, of course, a bad thing. The information was in the process of being removed as the story went to press.

However, the story includes this comment:

"Having information about a target's countermeasures does two things," said Daniel Goure of the Lexington Institute. "It gives you an opportunity to choose a different weapon and to choose a different attack style ... perhaps choosing to launch a salvo attack, or choose a missile that uses an active beam."

(emphasis mine)

Gee thanks! Now I know that to overload the defenses of the Presidents plane, I just need to fire multiple missiles or choose a radar guided missile for my attack. Nice job, Mr. Goure, for mentioning these facts, and kudos for the Chronicle for including the quote!

Morons!

O RLY?

OMG!

If this doesn't get forwarded to Scott Adams, there is something wrong with the universe.

Read the post. But don't be eating or drinking when you read it.

On that note, I need an O RLY? penguin.

I have the cutest, most talented baby niece in the world.

Kiri and I got to spend some face time with Kylie the Wonder Baby today. She's learned to wave! And she growls! She also showed great taste in being fascinated with my Giants hat. When lunch time rolled around, she picked up one of her crackers and put it in her mouth all by herself! This was a first!

Go Kylie!

When were arrived, she was wearing bunny ears. We saw this from the car as Ann was holding her in the window. Kirsten commented "We're not even out of the car and already we're dead from cute."

Had a nice chat with Ann and Bill. Though the conservation kept coming back to Her Majesty. As well it should!

It's amazing how fast they grow. Scary, in a way.

After nearly overloading on the sheer cuteness of the baby person, we went over to D&J Hobby. I wanted to see if they still had the wonderfully eclectic RPG section. Sadly, the answer is no. Down to one side of an aisle, and mostly D&D stuff with some Warhammer FRPG. Guess I'm going to need to mail order stuff from now on.

Speaking of which, now that I'm employed again, I'm planning on ordering a new copy of Hârn and the new Kingdom of Kaldor boxed set. The fantasy bug is still biting me.

Kiri picked up some craft stuff, and we went to lunch at Red Robin. Good stuff, especially because they had the game on. The Giants got over last night's fiasco and, playing a lot of back-ups, beat the Braves in fine fashion, 12-6.

Now we're home, Kiri is napping, and I'm fiddling with my Ultracorps game. We're in the home stretch, and I've built up a good lead in all four rated categories (Worlds, Population, Firepower, and Total Worth). I'm starting to really pour the attacks on Ckat, sending fleet after fleet to attack his lightly held worlds and building world-smashers so that even if the invasion fails, I'll devastate his infrastructure making it harder to resist the follow-on fleet.

I forgot to mention that I went back over to my new job yesterday to fill out paperwork. I start at 0700 Monday, and now have my weekends off! I'm going to ask about Memorial Day weekend since I need to know if I have to adjust my availability for Baycon.

I think I set a record for tags on this post.

Noticed while doing the birthday meme...

Three US Presidents and one Vice President have died on July 4th. With my taste for occult weirdness, might they have been ritual sacrifices to keep the nation strong?

Notably, none of those deaths occurred after the end of the 19th Century... what mystic protection did we acquire? Perhaps that was the real goal of the Spanish-American War, to steal the artifacts that preserved Spain's empire and use them to establish our own! We did go from "amusing provincials" to "world power" very quickly.

This could be a fun game of politics, the occult, and imperialism! If I've got my timing right, the 1890s were a Golden Age of sorts for British mysticism with the Golden Dawn and all that lot running around without adult supervision. ([livejournal.com profile] isomeme.. what was Crowley doing in the 1890s?)

Start the game just before the destruction of the USS Maine (it wasn't the magazine that exploded.. something wanted out and a swabbie accidentally broke the circle holding it in...

Bring in Nicola Tesla and we can add Weird Science and Zeppelins to the mix! Hell, 1897 was the year of the Aurora UFO crash! Tesla and the PCs must race to Texas to recover the crash artifacts before perfidious Spanish agents can do the same!

Now we have a war of Old World mysticism vs. New World steam punk! With the US trying to amass WMD (Weapons of Magical Destruction)

This bears some more research...

Of course, the climax would be aimed to take place in San Francisco around mid-April, 1906
