Heavy Metal Sunday has seen plenty of change in 20 years.

Wednesday marks my 20th wedding anniversary. After seeing that my first choice for today had been taken down, I asked the decorative and functional [livejournal.com profile] kshandra to name her favorite metal song as I was poking around for something released close to our wedding date. After establishing that I had in fact run Queensryche's Jet City Woman, she asked if I minded a power ballad. Of course not! She selected The Scorpions - Wind of Change.

OK then! I find a fantastic version off the Moment of Glory album, recorded live with the Berliner Philharmoniker in 2000. We enjoy the video together, then I get down to the business of searching out album details and links. What do I find on the Wiki page for Wind of Change? Released April 5 1991. Almost exactly one month before our wedding.

My Kiri rocks. In many ways. Love my Boo!

Now get out your Zippos for Wind of Change

This song is really special for many Russian people. The first reason is the subject matter. The second is that Scorpions was the first Western rock band to ever play in the Soviet Union.
