OK, this is getting frustrating.

I have updated everything; browser, definitions, Windows updates, even made sure that my device drivers are up to date. I have optimized my system until it squeaks. I run a virus scan daily. I've uninstalled anything that might be trying to hog bandwidth. And still we're dealing with horrendously slow net speeds. I just tested on four sites. The average results?

Download: 1.3875 Mbps
Upload: 0.4675 Mbps

Compared with other AT&T customers in our area, that's terrible.

Had that problem myself - turned out the modem, even though it was still *working*, was slowly dieing. If I remember correctly, you have DSL, but could it be that something upstream has gone kerplut?

I was going to say it either sounds like their equipment is dying or you have a fault with SBC directly. How long have you had said equipment?

Heh. My speed is 384Kbps...

What speed *should* you be getting?

Based on what we had before this started, and what a couple of test sites said was average for my area, somewhere in the 4-5Mbps range for downloads.

I use a Firefox extension called Morning Coffee to open a set of pre-set pages. My daily list is 15 sites. That doesn't count things I check only on specific days. Before this all started, the Morning Coffee sites would all load in under a minute. Now? It's not even worth trying.

That does seem slow; my first-thing-in-the-morning list of 15 or 20 tabs takes about a minute to load on 384Kbps.
