Heavy Metal Sunday runs up the Jolly Roger!
Running Wild were a very popular and influential German heavy metal band, formed in 1976 in Hamburg. They were part of the German heavy/speed/power metal scene to emerge in the early to mid 1980s. The band has carved its niche in the metal world as the first "pirate metal" band, a theme which took off with the release of Under Jolly Roger in 1987. On April 17, 2009 vocalist/guitarist Rolf Kaspareck announced that Running Wild had split-up. Their last show was at Wacken Open Air on July 30, 2009. It was recorded for CD and DVD release.
Some very good stuff to be had. Today's track is the generically named Pirate Song off 2002's The Brotherhood. Fan video, but it's a lot of fun. Enjoy, or walk the plank!

This particular one made me wonder if you've run across Alestorm yet. They're a band out of Perth, Scotland, and call themselves "Pirate metal". Or perhaps you might have heard of them under their old name, Battleheart. You've got a broad knowledge of metal, so I figure it's a good chance you've already heard of them, though they're relatively new to me. I've gotten to quite like them.
A couple of my favorites by them (on the very unlikely chance you've not heard them before) are Keelhauled (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ta-Z_psXODw) and Wolves of the Sea (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOr7c7ybAgE). Just to give you a taste, if they're new to you too. :)
