OK, I don't get this.

I saw an ad in Sunday's paper for a police dispatcher job at San Francisco State University. This school is literally down the road from me. It's a ten minute bus ride!

Checking out the requirements for this tiny campus police department, they are higher than some municipal police departments I've applied with. What the hell do they expect here? Is SFSU a center for criminal activity? How much action does a 15-man police department on a campus that is about 2 square miles get?

Why in the hell do they demand a year of police dispatching experience for a job that pays way below the going rate for public safety dispatchers?

I'll give it a try, since they do say "comparable agency."

Shame it's not the University of Illinois. IIRC U of I cops have jurisdiction in any county within which the University owns property... which I believe covers the entirely of the state. At that point you're practically a second state police force.

It's possible that it has something to do with the fact that it's a State U. They may have one set of quals for any dispatch job at any SU statewide. Or they're smoking something.
