Heavy Metal Sunday gets folksy

Eluveitie (pronounced El-Vey-Ti) is a folk metal band from Switzerland. Their sound can be described as Celtic folk metal with melodic death metal influences. The band formed in 2002 and their first EP, Vên came out in 2003. The band then released a full-length album, Spirit. In November 2007, Eluveitie was signed by Nuclear Blast. The first product of the collaboration, Slania, was released in February 2008. The album peaked at number 35 in the Swiss charts and number 98 in the German charts. Eluveitie use traditional instruments amidst guitars and wide-ranging, emotional screams. The lyrics are often in the extinct language Gaulish. Eluveitie is Etruscan for "the Helvetian", referring to an inscription dating to the earliest record of the Celtic Helvetii tribe from what is now Switzerland.

This morning we present Omnos off 2009's Evocation I: The Arcane Dominion. Contrary to their previous works, this album is entirely acoustic, using traditional European folk instruments in many places. Very interesting stuff.

Cool sound! Thank you for sharing it, I'm looking for more of these guys, now. This is one of the things I like about HMS. =)

Since we are speaking of Celtic inspired European metal bands... What's you opinion of In Extremo?
(And I really liked this one. As Caraig said, I may have to find more.)

What I've heard I really like. I'll probably slip them into the mix in a month or two.
