OK, this is cool.

The Giants are playing in Kansas City (interleague play, go figure) and both teams are honoring the Negro Leagues by wearing throwback uniforms.

The Giants are wearing the togs of the Brooklyn Royal Giants while the KC Royals are dressed as the Kansas City Monarchs.

I love these old uniforms. Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum (see icon) looks like a kid dressed up for Halloween.

Kruk and Kuip just pointed out that on throwback days the umpires should get into the act. When the Royal Giants and Monarchs played, umpires wore suits with bow ties and were addressed as "sir" by players and managers.

Now I want to watch A League of Their Own pr Eight Men Out again.

I like the idea of the umpires dressing in "throwback" uniforms too. And thanks for the explanation -- I picked up on the KC Monarchs, but I didn't know what uniform the Giants were wearing because I didn't see all of the game, on account of flipping back and forth between it, the Formula One, and the Euro 2008 quarter-final.

I like the occasional old-time uniform days. I didn't like the ending of this game, though. Arrggh!
