Train 102 is on the wrong track and headed for you...

I see a train-wreck approaching.

I'm a guest at Silicon 2007. At least, I think I am. So far:

I have been directed to a guest survey form that still had "Baycon" in many places.

Received a "schedule" email that was empty.

After asking about that, i was told to wait and I'd get a replacement soon.

Tonight, I get an email with the first few programming items (cut off mid word) and a link to see my schedule. I click the link, try to log in, and get...

nothing. It just keeps recycling to the log in page.

Oh, yeah.. I'm loving this event already.

Heh...

Tho, I'm telling you that we'll have the best Staff Feed ever. :)

If either of us was working the con, that'd be good to know. ;-)

I know that my portion of the world is working.

As long as the check doesn't bounce. If the check bounces...be assured you will know where I am. I'll be the guy with the chainsaw and the shotgun. ;)

Sorry to hear it. Not surprised. But sorry.

Eh, there's three weeks left. At Toronto Trek this year, I didn't get my 'tentative' schedule until the Wednesday before the con, and my final schedule was delivered to me in my program participants pouch.

SiliCon is a cheerful, well-meant, all-volunteer organization - with all that implies for good and ill.

This will be my third year of involvement with the convention (I suffer a compulsive need to offer panels. I'm told that medication should help) and what you're encountering is nothing new, alas.

But, grin and bear it, if you can. The event itself is good fun, honest! ;)

I was at the first Silicon way back when. It's always been a fan-run thing, like every other convention I attend.. including Worldcons. I've been guesting at cons for what, almost a decade now? Before that I worked them, in every role from gopher to con chair.

What is annoying is the fact that they're using someone else's web code with the serial numbers filed off for guest intake, can't seem to send email correctly, and have a borked portal. In Silicon Valley, at a convention named after the element that made us something more than an agricultural alcove.

they're using someone else's web code with the serial numbers filed off for guest intake,

*raises eyebrows* I didn't know that.

Seems they took off a bit more than just the serial numbers, given how broke it seems to be...

The intake form that I filled out when first invited worked great. And it was pretty much identical to Baycon's. In fact, in several places where it should have said "SiliCon" it still read Baycon.
