Dear universe.

An eight hour day. That's all I'm asking for right now. A day where I clock in at around 0630 and clock out at around 1500.

I'm sure you can't be too blunt about it

but doesn't your industry have safety standards about not being on the road too long, getting tired & being a danger to the world?

The legal maximum is 10 hours in any one day, 60 hours in any one week. That's mainly aimed at OTR drivers who have been known to drive three days straight on coffee and amphetamines to make bonus money. For local-haul drivers like me, the rules are much fuzzier.

But it's not even the 12 hour epics like last Thursday that are grinding me down, it's the constant run of 8.51, 9.36, 8.72, hour days I see on my paycheck. I get at least a half hour of overtime most every day.

Take a left at the Unicorns

If you find an 8 hour a day job, I'd love to know where THAT is. I believe it's a mythical creature.
