It was fifty years ago today.

New York Giants owner, Horace Stoneham, Jr., announced that the team would be moving west for the 1958 season and would henceforth be known as the San Francisco Giants.

Happy birthday, SF Giants!!

1958 Giants

When I drove for SuperShuttle, one of the charters I got was to carry members of the 1958 team to a 40-year reunion at Candlestick. Having seven ball players of that era in my van was amazing. I just listened to them talk about the old days, still arguing over calls and plays.

So, since I'm in a nostaligic mood, shall we go Talking Baseball?

I'm embarrassed now. I didn't realize the take off song "Talkin' Softball" on The Simpsons wasn't an original song. I never even heard of "Talkin' Baseball"!

I liked it! I don't know the players (I'm not baseball knowledgeable, though my dad would probably know them), but it's a cool song. :)

Well, you can learn about Willie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willie_Mays), Mickey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mickey_Mantle), and the Duke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_Snider).

Say hey!

Which Giants did you get on your bus? I'm guessing Willie Mays doesn't ride the bus. I suppose Felipe Alou doesn't either since modern-day managers make pretty good money.

I had Stu Miller sitting next to me in my jump seat. The only other name I remember is Jim Davenport.

Willie is a local, so I imagine the team sent a car for him (I picked up my load of Giants at a hotel.) Felipe was managing the Expos at the time, so he wasn't available.
