Sports and baby people.

This scandal-plagued Tour ended in a redeeming fashion, with Alberto Contador of Spain holding off a furious charge by Cadel Evans of Australia, winning by a slim 23 seconds. Hopefully, before the next Grand Tour event the UCI will make the rules ironclad.

The SaberCats won their 3rd Arena Bowl in six years, 55-33, over the Columbus Destroyers

We nicked out near the end of the game to go see my sister and brand new baby Regan. Regan, as is the case with all newborns, is too cute and liked being held by her Aunt Kirsten. I shy away from holding newborns, I'm just not comfortable holding babies that small. As I told Ann, I want to see her crawl into a few chair legs before I hold her. Regan did grab my finger. We stuck around to help Bill and Ann load everything in their car, and headed home, just in time to see...

... my Giants lose to the Florida Marlins 8-5. We allowed 17 hits in this game. That's not good. Bonds didn't tie Aaron today.

People are still driving around downtown San Jose really, really fast.

In other sports news, the Niners have signed first-round pick Patrick Willis. The outside linebacker from Ole Miss signed just before midnight and reported to the opening of 49ers training camp. We've now signed all our draft picks and free agents. Things are looking good for the Red and Gold.

So, how are things in your sporting worlds? Or any baby news to share?

My Cubs gained 2 games on the road to pull within half a game of the Brewers, and Essendon won this week. Kevin Sheedy, the long time coach of Essendon, will be coaching his last 6 games at the club. He's been the coach for 25 or more years.

Baby news, sort of: the younger of my two grandsons recently asked his mother to shave off his mohawk. This at the tender age of 3.

Hey, unlike the American sports leagues, the UCI is serious about getting rid of the doping problem. While this year's Tour de France was a meltdown, many commenters are saying that it shows that cheating is becoming impossible, and that with even stricter rules doping will be a memory.

O's beat the Yankees last night. Life is good.

Phils swept the Buccos, now are just 1½ games out of the Wild-Card. They're still 3½ behind the New York Mets.

The Grand Prix was interesting. Not that I saw much of it from where I was standing, but interesting. More in my LJ.
