Bloggers of the World, Unite! You have nothing to lose but your cat macros!

Cool montage of old Soviet propaganda posters set to the Soviet National Anthem. OK, everyone look together in socialist brotherhood to the north-west (where our glorious future is manufactured) and praise to Comrade Lenin Stalin errr.... could somebody check to see who our Glorious Party Chairman is today?

Darn purges.

Wow, that's a long national anthem, I think it even outpaces ours if you do all four verses...

Non sequitur question:

Did you get the e-mails I sent you on the 12th and 13th? One went to your old mindspring address and the other to your livejournal address.

If neither of these are active, let me know how I should reach you. (I'm at ggrant AT istop DOT com).

You are mistaken, Comrade. There have been no purges. Comrade Putin has always been Glorious Chairman of the World Worker's Party!

All hail comrade Putin, the new incarnation of the undying Lenin!

I can't help but wonder, Comrade Doug, just how did you run into this video? Hmmm?

I love the Soviet national anthem. VERY stirring piece of music, that.

OoooOOoooooo..... now there's a fun idea for a modern magical campaign! To get rid of Stalin, Soviet necromancers call up the ghost of Lenin and he possesses a new body every few decades...

Posted to an extremely odd thread in alt.atheism. Don't ask, it seemed to be an attempt to say "Marx, Lenin, et al, were down on organized religion. They led to this great piece of music and these interesting propaganda posters, so we should hate them and all atheists."

Yes, but life has interrupted my emailing activities. Response soon, I promise.

Though not bad, it's been used by SO many Russian Sci-Fi writers.

Vladimir Lenin, the Greater Mummy of the Soviet Union... Add to that the Nordic Sorcerers of the Third Reich, the Illuminati of the United States, the Chinese Daosi, and a bunch of Northern Irish druid terrorists. Stir, shake, serve chilled.

In fact, it's still being used as Russian Federation's anthem. Except that the words are different.

Though I like the original version better.

One wonders...when the anthem is played at events, how many sing the new words, and how many sing the old?

Quite a number, I'm willing to bet.

Damn, I miss the commies and the cold war... the Rooskies were rational people (for the most part) and while they may have been willing to sacrifice pieces for a larger goal (as you'd expect from a nation of chess players), they didn't try really insane stuff like the "We'll get 72 virgins when we bite it" crew... I guess when you don't believe in the afterlife you tend to guard the life that you have more carefully.
